Jens Andersen: Players will choose to be a hero or villain. Once they are in the game they can band together with like minded players and form leagues, legions or societies to try and save or rule the world. Our combat is very responsive and is more skill based in its tactics. In our game when someone throws a car at you we don't want you to hide, we want you to catch it and throw it back.
MMOsite: Can we choose some super heroes such as superman and Batman as my avatar? Or they are only NPCs?
Jens Andersen: You can't play as Superman or Batman because they already exist in the DC Universe. Plus, you can't have a game with thousands of Superman characters running around for obvious reasons. However, you will be able to create your own character in their likeness. So, for example, if you want to be a ninja character who uses gadgets, you'll have something similar to Batman that you'll be able to make your own. And players shouldn't worry about not being as powerful as these characters. If we're truly making you Batman like or Superman like then you can assume you will be their equal, not their inferior. However, I still don't recommend just punching Superman in the face.
MMOsite: What kind of player economy can we expect to see in DC Universe Online?
Jens Andersen: We will be talking about that at a later time. Look forward to some cool information in the future on how we're handling our economy.
MMOsite: What is your favorite feature of DC Universe Online in your mind? And why?
Jens Andersen: It's the physics combat. Grabbing some guy with my telekinetic beam and slamming him into walls is fun. Or the Quantum power that lets me make a singularity I can drag through the world sucking up anything that comes near it, cars and people alike. It's just plain cool!
MMOsite: Besides the US market, do you have any plan to launch the DC Universe Online Gold in other countries and regions?
Jens Andersen: We'll be launching DCUO in the U.S. and in several European countries as well.
MMOsite: Have you decided the business mode yet?
Jens Andersen: Nope. We're focusing on the game, not building to a business model. We pay attention to fun and once we have it, we'll figure out the best way to give our players access to it.
MMOsite: Do you have anything more about DC Universe Online we didn't involve in this interview that you'd like to tell our readers?
Jens Andersen: I just want to thank the team for the amazing work they are doing. The studio has put the right people in place to make this product. The folks here in Austin are not only extremely talented but have a lot of diversity. We have experts from both the MMO and Action space who are coming together to solve the unique challenges a game like this presents. Fresh looks and new perspectives are leading down a path few folks are walking on and the results are showing. We look forward to getting it into your hands.
